Two women who went to the aid of a taxi driver who was being attacked were punched and kicked by the man, police have said.

The man had got into the taxi, already occupied by the two women, but was told to leave by the taxi driver after he began verbally assaulting the women.

After leaving the taxi in North Methven Street, Perth, at about 03:15 on Sunday he attacked the driver.

He then punched and kicked the women in the head and body a number of times.

Both women were injured and needed hospital treatment.

Police Scotland have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

The man was described as being white, in his late twenties, 5ft 6in, of slim build with a slim face. He had stubble on his chin and short dark hair and was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt, blue denim jeans and dark shoes.

He entered the silver Vauxhall Zafira taxi in Murray Street.

Police said there were a number of people in the area at the time and it is believed the incident may have been witnessed by passers-by.
